When Objects work - Bowl John Pawson

The bowl is a perfect, seamless hemisphere . The striking sculptural quality of the piece derives from its simplicity of form, monumental scale and its ability to sit obliquely to the surface on which it is set.

Returning to their quietly iconic geometries after an interval of two decades, Pawson has used experiments with materials to drive formal evolution. The decision to render the object in solid marble and limestone, requires a graduated thickness in the body of the piece to recreate the characteristic tilt, producing an elliptical horizontal section that is a refined departure from the original design.
